Recently, according to Automobilwoche, Mercedes-Benz will invest billions of dollars to modernize its factories in China, Germany and Hungary in the next few years in preparation for the transition to electric vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz says it will be ready to go electrified by the end of the decade when market conditions permit.
Prior to this, the European Parliament formally passed the proposal in Strasbourg to stop the sale of fossil fuel vehicles in Europe by 2035, with 340 votes in favor, 279 votes against and 21 abstentions. The bill would ban the sale of new petrol cars in Europe after 2035.
It is reported that the European Union has also set a goal to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of each passenger car in its life cycle by half compared with 2020 by the end of this century.
"We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in preparation for each plant, which will go to Beijing, Rastatt in Germany and Kecskemet in Hungary," said the Mercedes-Benz production manager.
Mercedes-Benz will kick off the revamp of the Rastatt plant in the coming months and will start producing the first model of the compact car platform MMA from 2024.
